Teenage Puppy Fats

The adrenal glands are responsible for regulating the function of hormones in the human body. However, stress and other kinds of external causes can disturb the adrenal glands and affect its ability to function normally. This then leads to a hormonal imbalance. In teenagers, an imbalance of hormones can cause emotional instability and a host of other problems like insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

When the adrenal becomes exhausted, it begins to produce large amounts of cortisol, which is a steroid that can reduce the production of progesterone, another hormone. A low level of progesterone in a teenager’s body causes an imbalance that contributes to the retention of fats, also referred to as puppy fats. This causes weight gain and creates yet more problems for the teenager.
